The
Metro Edge FSC is proud to announce the acquisition of
Dartfish! Dartfish is state-of-the-art video analysis
software Dartfish is a video software analysis tool that is
fast becoming an industry standard in figure skating
coaching. All skaters can benefit from this tool, from the
competitive skater to the recreation skaters and including
synchronized skating teams!
Dartfish allows coaches to capture video with unparalleled
ease using a remote control, DV camera, and a laptop computer.
The computer allows coaches to store and analyze vast amounts
of video material quickly and give appropriate feedback almost
instantly. This speeds the learning process and creates a
safer learning environment as multiple measurements can be
accurately tracked. You can then publish the video to CDROM,
DVDROM, or by email. This makes consulting and distance
learning a snap. Just imagine being able to send your
individual or synchro program to a world level coach,
technical specialist and/or judge using the detailed video
analysis tool to provide feedback on skills, technical
elements, provide the levels of ISJ elements performed, etc.
USFS is looking at this tool now to provide coaches,
technicians and judges visual training on new standards and/or
rule changes. The opportunities are vast!
Dartfish Training – June 18-19th – for Coaches & Interested
Parents
Through the purchase of the software we discovered that
Christian Conte is the “figure skating champion” for Dartfish
and he is scheduled at our STL Summer Camp. So we have
accelerated the purchase of our software and hardware to take
advantage of Chris’s time in St. Louis to provide training to
all interested Metro affiliated coaches and parents that are
interested in providing technical support to our coaches.
Dartfish will be utilized by coaches on Club Ice and at
Synchro Team practices. Parents that go through the training
will be our first “certified technical specialists”, these
parents will be supporting the coaches through assisting them
by setting up the laptop and camera, videoing skaters/teams,
and assisting them as needed with the software tools. The
coaches will provide the analysis and feedback to the skaters.
Christian Conte is a recognized expert. He has used it to
trouble shoot jumps and enhance techniques for US Olympians
Tim Goebel, Sasha Cohen, and Emily Hughes. One of the first
figure skating coaches to implement this technology in the
United States, Christian serves as an authorized sales
representative and trainer for the company. This is a great
opportunity to learn from someone that has utilized this tool
extensively in our sport!
F or more background information on how
it is used, see his article, “Fishing
for Better Jumps” in PSA
magazine (Jan 2007), or visit

Testimony from Audrey King Weisiger
World and Olympic Coach; 1999 United States Figure Skating
Association and Professional Skater's Association Coach of
the Year; Director of Grassroots to Champions Skating
Seminars
"If you love sports, then you'll love Dartfish. Sports
enthusiasts of all ages and abilities can benefit from the
Dartfish software. As an Olympic figure skating coach, I
find the visual impact of SimulCam and StroMotion a dramatic
step-up from conventional video, and my students are making
remarkable technical progress. The resources available on
the Dartfish software have helped take my coaching to the
next level by providing new data on the biomechanics of my
sport. As the director of the Grassroots to Champions
seminars, I use this state-of-the-art technology for
coaches' workshops and mentoring. And finally, on the
recreational participant level, the Dartfish software helps
show yours truly, a novice golfer, what is wrong with my
swing. I highly recommend this company and product for those
that are intimidated by computers and video technology,
because they take pride in training you so that you are
confident when using the system. I'll say it again. If you
love sports, then you'll love Dartfish."
