Synchronized Team Skating
Fifth Class      Fourth Class       Third Class       Second Class      First Class

  Synchronized Team Skating Tests

Synchronized team skating tests are optional and are divided into five classes. Teams must take tests in the following order:

  1. Fifth Class
  2. Fourth Class
  3. Third Class
  4. Second Class
  5. First Class

Each test contains two parts, both of which must be taken during the same session. Part one (required elements) must be passed before the free skate portion (part two) may be taken.

Fifth Class Synchronized Team Skating Test (P5C)

Part One:
The following elements are required:

  1. Forward circle using basic step sequences
  2. Backward circle with backward crossovers or chassés
  3. Forward straight line with alternating left/right stroking of two counts each
  4. Parallel lines
  5. Forward closed block with alternating left/right stroking of two counts each
  6. Forward pivot wheels
  7. Backward two-spoke pinwheel with basic chassé steps
  8. Forward "V" intersection
  9. Forward figure 8 intersection

Part Two: No program to music is required.

Fourth Class Synchronized Team Skating Test (P4C)

Part One: The following elements are required:

  1. Forward to backward circle consisting of crossovers or chassés in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction
  2. Backward line with eight-count step sequence to be repeated twice
  3. Forward line dividing into two lines and returning to one line traveling at least one half of the ice surface
  4. Backward closed block consisting of at least one eight-count step sequence
  5. Backward "S" wheel with crossovers or simple chassés
  6. Backward four-spoke pinwheel
  7. Parallel pinwheel with skaters facing each other
  8. Forward block intersection
  9. Forward two-line intersection with each line performing alternating left/right stroking of two counts each

Part Two: Program to music:

  1. Minimum of 12 and maximum of 24 skaters
  2. Minimum of four different elements selected from the fifth class and/or fourth class tests and must include transitions and connecting steps. The elements are not required to be performed exactly as in part one as long as the basic element is included (i.e., an "S" wheel of any variety).
  3. Music must have at least one change of tempo. Vocal music is permitted.

Duration: Minimum of 2 minutes; maximum of 3 1/2 minutes

Third Class Synchronized Team Skating Test (P3C)

Part One: The following elements are required:

  • Large circle to small circle in either clockwise or counterclockwise direction
  • Forward or backward line changing from horizontal to longitudinal
  • Forward to backward to forward closed block
  • Backward three-spoke wheel
  • Backward multiple pivot
  • Parallel pinwheel with all skaters facing in the same direction
  • Backward "V" intersection
  • Asymmetrical line intersection
  • Sequence of maneuvers

Part Two: Program to music:

  1. Minimum of 12 and maximum of 24 skaters
  2. Minimum of six different elements of which three must be selected from the third class test and must include transitions and connecting steps. The elements are not required to be performed exactly as in part one as long as the basic element is included.
  3. Music must have at least one change of tempo. Vocal music is permitted.

Duration: Minimum of 2 1/2 minutes; maximum of 4 minutes

Second Class Synchronized Team Skating Test (P2C)

Part One: The following elements are required:

  • Backward double circles one inside the other, revolving in opposite directions
  • Forward to backward circle in either clockwise or counterclockwise direction
  • Parallel lines facing opposite directions (back to back)
  • Pivot block
  • Parallel pinwheel with skaters in back-to-back position
  • Forward twin three-spoke interlocking wheel
  • Two backward circles that intersect at both junctions of the circle
  • Backward four-spoke intersection
  • Sequence of maneuvers

Part Two: Program to music:

  • Minimum 12 and maximum of 24 skaters
  • Minimum eight different elements three of which must be selected from the second class test and must include transitions and connecting steps. The elements are not required to be performed exactly as in part one as long as the basic element is included.
  • Music must have at least one change of tempo. Vocal music is permitted.

Duration: Minimum of 3 minutes; maximum of 4 1/2 minutes

First Class Synchronized Team Skating Test (P1C)

Part One: The following elements are required:

  • Traveling circle either single or double
  • Single line forward or backward that changes from short to long due to a hold change
  • Forward or backward closed block that changes configuration and axis
  • Backward twin three-spoke interlocking wheel
  • Backward traveling three-spoke or five-spoke wheel
  • Forward or backward triple two-spoke wheel interlock
  • Backward four-spoke wheel with intersections of two of the spokes as the wheel rotates.
  • Backward double "V" intersection
  • Sequence of maneuvers

Part Two: Program to music

  • Minimum 12 and maximum of 24 skaters
  • Minimum of ten different elements four of which must be selected from the first class test and must include transitions and connecting steps. The elements are not required to be performed exactly as in part one as long as the basic element is included.
  • Music must have at least one change of tempo. Vocal music is permitted.

Duration: Minimum of 4 minutes; maximum of 4 1/2 minutes
